Well since hunting season is over and fishing season hasn't begun the Baum's decided to embark on a new type of hunting...House Hunting!
Let me tell you, this is SCARIER then any bear hunt. The houses in Ketchikan leave a LOT to be desired and you never know what kind of $200,000+ pit you are going to walk into.
Currently, we have settled on one house in particular. It is one of the $200,000 dollar pits I previously mentioned. However, this house does have some major potential. It is located off S. Point Higgins and is on the beach! There is a great view of Guard Island and the beach out front is really nice. That is the major selling point.
The house was built in 1979, the year Kristi was born. The upstairs in all original 70s decor. The walls and ceiling are DARK brown rough cut wood. The kitchen has dark brown cabinets and sweet orange laminate countertops. All we need to do is add some green shag carpet and a disco ball and we are grooving!
The ad for the house and a picture can be seen at the link below. But beware the ad is mostly false. It says the house has two heat sources but neither of them work!! Something that will get fixed before we sign on the line. Also, updates have NOT been done throughout the house, only a few downstairs.

Let us know what you think? We are planning a bbq on the beach shortly after we move in!
South Point Higgins has a special place in my heart as I grew up on those very roads. Once I learned to ride a bike (after a couple of "arrivals" in the ditch before I learned the correct use of the brakes)I spent quite a bit of time riding up and down South Pt, Bunchberry, Strawberry...etc. I do like it down there, close to the water, and the beaches are pretty walkable as well. I'd say go for it :)
ReplyDeleteIs this the one with an apartment downstairs that's like a cave with rock walls? Maybe this house is next door to that one. We looked at the "cave" apartment to rent when we were getting married, but we quickly ran away. It was rather scary! Anyway, that's a good price for being on the beach, and with Jeremy's building ability, I'm sure you could make it nice over time!
ReplyDeleteLooks like Darrah Pitchford's place. Is there an apartment on the bottom? Darrah was a "world-class" K/1 teacher at CPCS several years ago - kinda like Kristi likely is.
ReplyDeleteLet us know when the BBQ is...David, Syd, and I are ready.. We are so excited for you guys!
ReplyDeleteLooks great, it will be nice for you guys to have a place of your own, especially right on the beach! Looking forward to seeing it!
ReplyDeleteIt is not the place many of you are thinking of. There is not an apartment and Caren there is not a cave! The upstairs is VERY 70s but the downstairs is more up to date. It has been a rental for quite awhile. The owners son lived in it for several years but since then it has been rented out.
ReplyDeleteThe same guy owns the funky house with the apartment and the one you guys are buying actually!! From what I understand the house with the apartment is a TRUE bachelor pad :) Anyway, hopefully you beach is big enough for all 7 of us to come and visit!!
ReplyDeleteI put a better picture on here. Click on the link again and you can see the ghetto fabulous inside!
ReplyDeleteYeahhh!!! Room enough for the Nicholson's to visit???.... :)
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for you. I can't wait to share this news with Shane and show the photos to Ash and Trent. A baby and a house... all in one year.. I think that this is a good move for you guys and with your taste and Jer's motivation, that place will be beautiful. How awesome that you guys found a place on the beach.
