The bear hunt...

Well last week I asked my ever-loving husband if we could go for a boat ride after work. He said, "Sure, I'll grab my bow in case we see a bear." Me thinking, yeah right I've never seen a bear out in the boat says, "Ok." Well we went back into the salt chuck in Trader's Cove and sure enough there were 2 black bears. So I dropped my camo-donning husband off on the beach and pulled the boat back to a safe viewing distance. Meanwhile, our bloodthirsty k-9 was freaking out because she had to stay in the boat and couldn’t help dad go kill something. Well sure enough Jeremy sneaks within 30 feet of this bear – who has NO clue his life is about to be taken – and let’s an arrow loose piercing the lung and main artery of this poor little bear. Well that bear took off up the hill and died before he even knew what happened. I beached the boat and let the k-9 go find the blood trail. Then Jeremy and Kenai went in after the bear and I stayed a safe distance incase it wasn’t dead. When I was told it was safe I crawled up so see this dead bear. Kenai – our German shorthaired pointer was in a full point. It was the funniest thing – she is supposed to be a bird-pointing dog, not a bear-pointing dog. Well then I had to help my husband pull this bear out onto the beach. Have you ever held a WARM bear paw in your hand….ewiiiee kind of gave me the heebie jeebies. Then we gutted and skinned most of it so we could get it in the boat. My what an adventure we had!!!

Grayline/Cruise Ship Fun Begins

Tuesday marked the beginning of my Grayline/cruise ship season. I did my first dispatch for the season and oh was it ever fun. I didn't get home until 9:30 p.m. and that is after teaching all day! Good thing I love this job and most of the people I get to work with, both on land and on sea!

I haven't gotten the chance to step behind the wheel of these bad boys just yet. But give me a couple weeks and I will be back on the road so - watch out!

All By Myself

Jeremy was sent out in the big boat for 20 days so I am all by myself :( He doesn't get back until May 22.

In the mean time I continue to work hard. I am teaching during the day and start back up with Grayline this Friday. I am working nights and weekends with Grayline until school ends in June. Then will work 3-5 days a week with Grayline.

This summer we plan to do a lot of hiking, fishing, boating, camping, gardening etc. Less work and more play! Last summer it was all work and no play so we decided I wouldn't work as much this summer so we can play! So start planning your trip up and join us in our adventures!

Jeremy's River Otter

This is Jeremy with the River Otter he shot. Poor, cute, little otter.

Shylo and Sydney so Lady Like

These are some classy ladies! Sydney is Jenn & David's dog and Shylo's niece. They are great buddies. Shylo is teaching Sydney the ropes.

Kristi with more fish!

Here's a smaller fish I caught!

Dead stuff!

So I said there would be some dead stuff on here. This is me dressed up in my camo with a huge bloody fish I killed. See not just Jeremy gets to kill stuff! We all do!

Kenai the Killer

This is Kenai - our German short-haired pointer. She is a bird brain. She loves to hunt as much, if not more than, her dad. We recently put a bird feeder outside our window in the living room and it has become the official bird TV. It is like ESPN for Kenai dogs, live action all day long.

Kenai is a highly intelligent dog, sometimes too smart for her own good – she recently learned how to open doors. Her sister Shylo has been opening them for her for the past two years but just this week Kenai started doing it for herself. I now have to lock the door when I want to lock them on the porch. Otherwise they just let themselves back in.

Kenai’s other activities include sleeping on the bed, going for long runs and beating up on her sister Shylo. Kenai loves to be the center of attention and just can’t stand it when she isn’t. But she is our princess so she often is at the center!

Shylo

This is Shylo or as we call her Shylo Ann. We tend to use her middle name often because she is always in some sort of pickle. She is always beating herself up. Currently she has a ripped up toe nail and a 1 inch gash in her leg. If it isn't that she is getting into something she shouldn't be or leaving her hair all over the place.

But she is the sweetest dog ever! Next month she is flying up to my parent’s house where she will receive invetro and become a mother for the first time. So Jeremy and I will be proud grandparents! Check out the sperm donor (Striker is his name) at www.janrod.com/striker.htm. These are going to be some water loving, ball chasing, sweet puppies! She will be gone for about 16 weeks and boy will I miss her.

Shylo's favorite activities include bouy fetching, swimming, fetching balls, hiking, fetching sticks, swimming while fetching something and sleeping on the bed.

Da Baums have a Blog!

We now have a blog! We just celebrated 1 year of marriage on April 16th so I decided we should commemorate it by jumping on the blog wagon. Not to sure what we will put up here. Probably pictures of our adventures, dogs and Jeremy's dead stuff! Hope you enjoy it.
